MERRILLVILLE, Ind., October 4, 2017 – MonoSol, a Kuraray Division, welcomed more than 30 students and staff from Hobart Middle School to its state-of-the-art production plant – the DuneLand facility – in Portage, Indiana, on October 3, to celebrate National Manufacturing Day, an initiative organized by the National Association of Manufacturers to connect with future generations of manufacturers and ensure the success of the manufacturing industry. The participating students and teachers are part of the school’s Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a program that introduces students to engineering.

MonoSol’s Production Manager, Jeff Johnson, led the group on a tour of the recently expanded facility, which makes water-soluble films. He showed them how MonoSol makes the films and explained that they are used for applications such as detergents, ag chem, solid surface, composites and embroidery, as well personal care products, food ingredients, water treatment chemicals, transfer printing and more.

Johnson also shared the types of careers available including engineers, business management, purchasing, sales, marketing, legal, production operators and others.

“MonoSol is very pleased to support Manufacturing Day by hosting local students from the Hobart Middle School. This event resulted from our connection and sponsorship with the Hobart Community Band,” said P. Scott Bening, President & CEO, MonoSol, LLC. “As a global industry leader, our responsibility extends not only to our employees, but also to the communities around us that we call home.”

Recently, MonoSol employees volunteered their time to help make history in Portage. Over 40 employees participated in Hannah’s Hope Playground Build at Founder’s Square to build an all-inclusive playground for kids with special needs. The facility is among the first of its kind in the U.S.

“As a corporate citizen, we understand our support is essential to the well-being and prosperity of the community,” Bening added.
