MERRILLVILLE, Ind., March 13, 2018 – To aid in flood relief efforts for the Hilltop Food Pantry in Valparaiso, Monosol, a Kuraray Division, and its employees contributed $10,000 to help the organization build a new facility. The agency lost 50 percent of its stock due to flood damage following recent heavy rains in Northwest Indiana.

“The Hilltop Food Pantry is an incredible resource and our employees have great empathy for the people in our surrounding communities whose lives have been impacted by the devastating aftermath of the heavy rainfall and flooding,” said P. Scott Bening, President and CEO, Kuraray/MonoSol, LLC. “I’m extremely proud of how they came together to support the organization and those it serves during this time of great need.”

In just three days, MonoSol and its employees raised funds from across the company’s corporate headquarters in Merrillville; its water-soluble film manufacturing plants in Portage, LaPorte and Duneland; as well as its facility in the United Kingdom.

Additionally, an anonymous donor will match MonoSol’s contributions, raising total assistance to $20,000. The donation will help the pantry secure a down payment on a new building, after six inches of rain flooded the pantry. Hilltop will move to Heritage Hall at Valparaiso University until May 31.

“Thank you for your amazing gift to the Hilltop Food Pantry. There is no way we would be able to rebuild without the help of MonoSol and their employees,” said Jennifer Wright, CEO, Hilltop Food Pantry. “Now, we will be able to continue to help those who are food insecure in our community.”

Hilltop’s Finance Director Lisa Pavlopoulos added, “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the employees of MonoSol. The amount of money they were able to raise in a short amount of time is inspiring. We can’t thank them enough.”

The Hilltop Food Pantry serves 600 individuals and families each month in the Valparaiso community. They are accepting monetary donations at www.hilltophouse.org and ask for anyone donating non-perishable food items to call 219-477-4222 to arrange a drop-off time.

Through charitable giving, MonoSol is committed to supporting the needs of the community. Earlier this year, MonoSol participated in the Clean the World Pack-a-Thon to benefit organizations, including the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Ross Township Food Pantry, Portage Township Food Pantry, Toys for Tots®, Parents and Friends and State Street Community Church.
