MonoSol's products,
once dissolved, are fully biodegradable. Effluent solutions
are attacked by micro organisms in water treatment plants
breaking the film down into carbon dioxide and water. Exposure
tests with concentrations of 500mg of PVOH per litre of
water on sensitive fish, had no ill effects.
This is obviously far in excess of any possible ground water
concentrations. Other tests on Daphnia produced the same
result.
In addition MonoSol, as part of an agricultural spray carrying
the actives, has approval for food crop use in America. There
is more test data available meeting specific market requirements
from a number of different countries, including Germany.
MonoSol's products will burn freely in sheet form, converting
to carbon dioxide and water. The films are non irritant with
skin and non toxic.
